Trying to remember the name of an old movie with a bank robber?

It's and old black and white movie where there is a crook who robs a bank and eludes police by going to a public swimming pool, there he meets a young women and tricks her into thinking he is a nice guy so she invites him to her apartment where her and her father live. He goes home with her to evades police where he holds her and her father hostage and the police dont know where he is. They build a sort of relationship and he says he loves her and trusts her enough to go to car dealership with some of the stolen money and he wants her to buy a yellow car, when she gets back the police have found him and he gets shot and the end. I know its not the best description but its what i remember, does anyone know what this movie is? My mom said it might be a ida lupino movie but i dont know. Thanks!
