Where can i find a list of injured ww2 injured marine soldiers.and to the extent of injuries.want a free list?

this would be for an illinois marine..would i need to know what brigade he was in? the government said they lost the list of injuries he had and did not get any type of compensation for it. he is deceased, could we still get it if we found the records showing his life altering injuries? thanks for your help in advance
