My Dodge Avenger randomly dies, please help!?

When driving down the road or even just idling, My Avenger will randomly die and not start back up. It's downtime is completely random, lasting anywhere from 5 seconds to 2 hours. It is the 2.5 V6 engine. I have noticed that the ASD relay has power to it while this occurs by using a test light. I have also used the key method to pull any codes and get a code referring to the crankshaft positioning sensor not sending a signal to the ECU, but also realise this could be from a number of reasons. Anyone out there have an idea what my problem might be?
