How can women seriously consider themselves equal to men, generally speaking?

The perceived advantages you see for women aren't really advantages, per se. I think that what men see as special advantages for women are often times destruction of certain male privileges that men are so used to having that the don't even recognize them. Many women have accomplished feats as good as and better than most men can ever dream of, so I am not sure that your umption that women are not equal to men is justifiable.
